About the Artists
Sarah Brady, flute, joined the Conservatory in 2006 and is an associate professor of flute and contemporary music. Brady is sought after across the country as a soloist, chamber musician, and master teacher and plays principal flute with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and Odyssey Opera. Brady can also be heard performing with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Boston Ballet, and Boston Lyric Opera. Learn more about Brady. Marielisa Alvarez, violin, is a cofounder and codirector of the Boston String Academy, an El Sistema–inspired program which provides rigorous string instrument instruction to children in underserved communities. Alvarez attended Boston Conservatory, earning a Master of Music in violin performance in 2009 and a Graduate Performance Diploma in 2011. Learn more about Alvarez.Jan Halloran, clarinet, joined the Conservatory in 2017 as an assistant professor of clarinet and chamber music. Halloran holds the position of principal clarinet with Boston Lyric Opera and regularly appears with many of Boston’s preeminent ensembles, including Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Odyssey Opera, Boston Philharmonic, and Emmanuel Music. She is a member of the Portland Symphony Orchestra’s clarinet section and spends summers with Opera North. Learn more about Halloran. Anne Howarth, horn, joined the Conservatory in 2021 and is an assistant professor of horn. Fueled by a passion for small ensemble collaborations, Howarth is deeply curious about the ways in which shared musical experiences forge connections, invite deeper dialogue, and inspire contemplation. Howarth is a founding member of the mixed-instrumentation chamber group Radius Ensemble, a senior member of the wind quintet Vento Chiaro, and a core member of Juventas New Music Ensemble. Learn more about Howarth. Krysten Keches, harp, joined the faculty of Boston Conservatory at Berklee in 2024 and is an assistant professor of harp. Keches performs regularly as a guest harpist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops. She is the principal harpist of Boston Festival Orchestra and the chamber orchestra Phoenix. Haram Kim, piano, is a South Korean pianist who made her New York debut at Carnegie Hall after winning top prizes at piano competitions such as the International Young Artist Piano Competition in Washington, DC, the International Beethoven Club Piano Competition, and the International Korean Arts Foundation Competition. Kim has frequently performed as a collaborative pianist with esteemed members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and more. She is currently on the collaborative piano staff at Boston Conservatory.Sharan Leventhal, violin, joined Boston Conservatory at Berklee in 2005 and teaches applied violin, chamber music, and contemporary performance practice. She has toured four continents as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. Since winning the Kranischsteiner Musikpreis at the 1984 International Contemporary Music Festival in Darmstadt, Germany, she has built a reputation as a champion of contemporary music, premiering over 130 pieces and receiving more than 30 grants to commission and record new works around the globe. Learn more about Leventhal. Margaret Phillips, bassoon, joined the Conservatory in 2014 and is an associate professor teaching bassoon and contrabassoon. Phillips is also on the faculty at Berklee College of Music and Boston University, and has been a highly sought-after freelance bassoonist and contrabassoonist in Boston and the New England area for over 25 years. Learn more about Phillips.Robert Sheena, oboe, joined the Conservatory to teach oboe and English horn in 2000 and is an associate professor of oboe. Sheena is the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s English horn player, is on the oboe and English horn faculty of Boston University’s School of Music and the Tanglewood Institute, and he teaches and coaches the oboe fellowship students of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Tanglewood Music Center every summer.
